Character Description: Snape is of an average height and build, but has a general air of malnourishment. His skin is pale and sallow, his hair is lank and oily, and his frame is not well filled-out with muscle. His hair is jet-black, and his dark eyes can be very piercing. As often as possible, he dresses in black robes, sometimes a cassock, frequently a cloak or cape. His appearance is either frightening or unpleasant, depending on how easily intimidated you are. Personality: Snape is a "sadistic" teacher who "abuses his power" (JKR). Having been picked on a lot as a child, Snape enjoys picking on those lesser than him in turn. He has a fascination with the dark arts, but is not an evil man, at heart. He is frequently cruel and sarcastic, but would rather be left alone, more often than not. Capable of deep feeling, when he makes a bond he carries it with him for the rest of his life. Background: Snape was born to a witch mother and a non-magical father. His childhood was not particularly happy, except for the bright point that was Lily Evans. A witch born of non-magical parents, Lily became young Severus's childhood friend, and he fell in love with her over the years. While they were at school together, Snape, who had always had an interest in dark magic, began to associate with a gang that later became the Death Eaters, servants of the powerful evil wizard Lord Voldemort. Lily would have nothing to do with them, and started a relationship with James Potter, a boy whose gang picked on Snape. Despite this, Snape never stopped loving Lily, and felt very guilty when he led his dark master to her hiding place, where she was killed. In penance, Snape turned on Voldemort, and joined his enemies. This earned him the trust of the headmaster of the British wizarding school, Hogwart's, who gave him a position on the staff as Potions Master. Years later, Lily and James' son, Harry, came to Hogwart's, and Snape, in a sort of repayment for his father's bullying, did his best to make Harry's life miserable. Over the next few years, Lord Voldemort, having regained some of his strength and power, called once again on his Death Eaters to join him. Snape, unable to break his vow to Lily's memory, rejoined his former master, but this time as a double agent. It is at this point, just as he has been placed in this difficult position, that he is taken to Mirage. Weaknesses: Snape is somewhat socially inept. Though he knows how to behave formally, and is adept at ingratiating himself to authority, he is rude and sarcastic and does not make friends well. His hobbies and habits are disturbing to others, and he does not take care of his hygiene very well. Strengths: Snape is very intelligent, and very talented with magic. He is well versed in both light and dark magics, particularly in the areas of potion-making and silent spells. He is exceptional as both a legilimens (mind-reader) and an occlumens (mind-shielder). This makes him both a skilled liar and a difficult person to lie to. Likes: Snape likes investigating and innovating occult magic. He likes to be left alone to do his work, and he likes to keep a well-stocked pantry of potions ingredients. Dislikes: Snape dislikes social obligations, such as hygiene, leaving his laboratory, and attending school functions. He dislikes people who are bothered by him. Talents and Hobbies: Snape has a talent for learning and practicing magic. He has a talent for mental disciplines. His hobbies are potion-making, gathering ingredients for potions, and researching occult magical lore. Family and Friends: Snape doesn't get along with his family and he doesn't have any friends.
